Technical Skills Module 2-- Dreamweaver
Assignment
# 2: Web Presentation
Course Mark: 30 marks
Each of you will create a
WWW presentation on a topic relevant to the course. This is an individual assignment. You may discuss
ideas and strategies with your classmates, but all the actual work must be your own. The main purpose of this assignment
is to give you a basic introduction to web page creation using hand-coding
HTML and Dreamweaver. If you're
already familiar with web page design this will probably be a very
easy assignment for you. Even if you are completely new to web page
creation the assignment should go relatively fast.
- For this assignment you must add content to these
two pages so that both pages use each of
these techniques at least once:
- Page title
- Coloured background [Design Module has
links to help you find out about web colours]
- The name of the "first page" must be index.htm
- For this assignment you must add content to the
two pages so that each of these techniques is
used at least once [that
is each techniques doesn't have to appear on both pages]:
- Picture
- Different font faces [such as Arial and Times Roman]. Be sure
to use "web-safe" fonts so that I will be able to view
them when I look at your pages. [Design Module has
links to help you find out about web-safe fonts]
- Different size
fonts
- Different coloured fonts
- External [absolute] hyperlink where text is clicked
- Internal [relative] hyperlink that links one page to the
other page [probably the first page to the second, but
this is up to you]
- Use of bullets for a list with at least three items [can
be either an ordered list or an unordered list]
- Active email link with your "real" email address
- For additional credit you can use some
or all of the following techniques:
- External [absolute] or internal [relative] hyperlink where
graphic is clicked
- Insert and use a table
- Create a bulleted list with bullets at different levels
[that is, the second line is indented and uses a different
bullet]
- Insert additional images
- Use an image as the background on one page [in
this case the relevant page does not also need a coloured
background]
- Create one or more additional pages
- BOTH of the pages must
have enough content to vertically fill the browser window approximately
twice when they are opened. That is, when you open your page
the right-hand scroll bar should be no more than about half way
down the screen. For example see:
- Do NOT create pages with TOO
MUCH vertical content. For example: http://www.ubc.ca/academic/fac_schools.html .
I am NOT going
to be counting lines folks, so don't get overly analytical about
this requirement - if you have any questions or concerns just ask
me.
